Messianic prophesies 1 Adversary – Root of the first prophecy

Do you know where in the Bible we find God‘s first promise to send the Messiah?

The answer is foundational to our faith because within this first Messianic Prophecy mentioned in the Bible lies our fate of eternal separation from God. Too many christians limit the Bible to the second main part, the Messianic Writings, forgetting about the first main part which already tells everything we should know.

That big first block of writings also reveals our Father’s promise to send someone who will restore us back into eternal life with Him. All people should be able to find the  clues to come to recognise who that promised one, the Messiah might be.

Let’s look at this prophecy in Genesis 3:15 that some Christians for that first mention of the Saviour calls it also the First Gospel.

In that book by Moses, about the beginning of times, telling what went wrong in the Garden of Eden, we find God telling the tempter or serpent:

“I will put enmity between you and the woman, and between your offspring [seed/ zera] and her offspring [seed/ zera]. He will pound your head, and you will bite his heel.” (Artscroll Tanach)

Of course, followers of Jeshua believe the seed refers to him as the coming Messiah and Deliverer. there is the Most High Deliverer Who has provided a deliverer on earth, which we as Christians do believe to be the sent one from God, rabbi Jeshua.

In the coming chapters we shall show you how we can see or find out why that master teacher Jeshua is this deliverer. When you follow the texts in the Pre-Messianic Scriptures or Old Testament you shall see that every prophecy about the Messiah that follows clarifies his mission and reveals a little more about when, where, and how he will be born, live and die.

But many modern Rabbis today believe that the idea of a Messiah did not begin until the late eighth century BCE, about 500 years after Moses wrote the first five books of the Bible.

In the following writings I hope to show you how already from Moses time people came to hear from Adam and Eve their descendants there could be hope and from the messengers of God who also gave them signals to look out for a liberator.

I hope to unravel the many ancient prophecies through Jewish literature and Christian thought and hope you too shall discover who is the seed that would pound on the head of the serpent.

In the previous chapters or blogwriting you could find how Eve got in her the doubt growing of God’s right to govern everything and how she heard a voice wondering

“Did God actually say, ‘You are not to eat from any tree of the garden’?”

That question made Eve ponder the serpent’s question. Though God told her not to eat from that one tree in the centre of the garden, lest she die, she came to pick its fruit, examining it, and considering the serpent’s words:

“You surely will not die,” he says. On the contrary, “your eyes will be opened and you’ll become like elohim.”

The Divine Creator had given each of His creation the free choice. She could have let her thoughts pass but thinking God was hiding something for her she wanted to see what He hold back from her. She did not trust Him any more and followed her own feelings of distrust.

Though God had warned them, the consequence is expensive.

Obey God’s word and live. Disobey and die.

“Why did it have to be snakes?”

asks Indiana Jones.

The Hebrew word for serpent is nachash (נָחָשׁ). If we look at the original word pictures for each of these letters, we can get some insight into the serpent’s mission and purpose.

  • The picture for nun (נ) is a seed or fish and means life or activity.
  • The picture for chet (ח) is a fence or wall and means separation or private.
  • The picture for shin (ש) is teeth and means to destroy, consume, or sharpen.

In this light form of word study, we find that nachash can represent the fencing in of a life for the purpose of destroying it.

Too many people want to see a literal “serpent” or “snake” here and do not see the Hebrew language and “way of speaking” of Moshe (Moses). We must understand that man, created in the image of God, having received a will or way of thinking, able to make their own free choices, it was up to Eve to make choices when she was somewhere or wanted to do something.

She, like anybody now, was free to dream and to have ideas in her head. But when she had certain ideas which went in against the Will of God it was up to her to decide to follow them or to put them away.

In the Bereshit is told how already at the beginning of times, man by letting their thoughts wander got lured into disobedience, the nachash fenced in humanity, placing us in bondage to his world, and sentencing us to separation from God forever.

In Genesis 3:1, we discover that his success as nachash comes by being crafty and cunning:

“Now the serpent [nachash] was craftier than any wild animal in the field which Yehovah God had made.”

We are told in Jewish literature that this serpent is none other than satan, the adversary of God like we can find such adversaries like Peter or the one who “rose up against Israel and incited David to take a census of Israel.” (1 Chronicles 21:1; as described by the medieval French Bible philosopher and grammarian Rabbi David Kimhi (Kimchi or Qimḥi) CE 1160–1235, known by the acronym RaDaK, in his commentary on Genesis 3:15).

Lots of Christians have taken the Hebrew word for adversary satan, as a name instead of a subject or title. Lots of people tend to make Satan a proper name by capitalizing it, in Hebrew, it is usually used as a common noun throughout the Tanakh (Old Testament) to mean “adversary.”

In the Brit Chadashah (New Testament) the Greek words satanas (satan) and diabolos (devil) are used interchangeably. In the Kethuvim Bet we do find those people who make false or malicious reports or those who bring injurious deflamation by spoken words or by looks, signs, or gestures, being called diabolos or slanderer. In the garden those thoughts which came up in Eve‘s mind where there to falsely accuse God to malign and destroy His position. Of course, lying about God is part of any adversary of God or satan’s strategic success as well.

Though the adversary won a great victory over humanity in seducing Eve to disobey God, he did not stop there. She having done a fault, having lured Adam also in her conspiracy against God, both broke the good relationship with God and having such fault this came also over their children and their descendants.

The adversary of God having made its entrance in the world of man would further turn its attention to destroy the lineage of the first woman or mannin Eve, and preventing this seed from arriving. In the following years we can even find a by God chosen anointed King David from whose lineage the Messiah would come (see Micah 5:2) to move his heart toward glorifying himself (1 Chronicles 21:1–17) and even having some one being killed so that he could have that man’s wife. By counting how many men under his command were fit for war, David could for a moment forget that God provided these men for His own glory, not David’s. David’s choice to take a census of Israel was free for him to make. The consequence to Israel was mandatory and expensive.

Seventy thousand men in King David’s kingdom died.

Throughout history we see how many adversaries or satans stood up to fight God and lovers of God. Many tried to defame or to calumniate like a diabolos the Most High Elohim. But the many Bible books show us how the God of gods always was mightier than the other gods or opponents.

From the beginning God gave man (Adam and Eve) just a few rules, to which they had to keep. They could have kept them but choose not. For that it can well be that The Most High has a way of removing from our lives that which we desire more than Him.

We always should remember that God is not a cruel dictator and potentate. Some Christians let others think that by saying that no man is able to live up to the commandments of God. God never required more from man than what they could cope. He even for those who went wrong provided solutions to come back on track.

In His great mercy, though, God preserved David’s bloodline and the Messianic promise.

      Dear author of Cross Roman,
I looked at your site and gave two replies, hopefully making clear how mankind did not have to do anything to receive the Gift of Salvation. Like with any present, when the one who received the ‘cadeau’ the receiver has to do something with it otherwise it shall be useless.

As a Christadelphian I believe we did nothing and even in a way are often unworthy to receive the whitewashing by the bloodshed of the Lamb og God. But the loving Father was willing to receive the ransom offer by His only begotten son, wich God accepted and also made his son higher than angels, taking him at his site to be a hig priest for Him and to be a mediator between God and man.

According to us though it is necessary, for the generations born after Christ, to believe in that man of flesh and blood who gave his life for the sins of all. That believe is an essential work. The next essential work is to recognise what one has done wrong, to regret it (once more a work) and to ak forgiveness for it (for many a very difficult task). After all those tasks, one can become a member of the Body of Christ (wich would again be an other work). Though we do believe also non Christians shall be saved and able to enter the Kingdom of God, as long as they kept to the mitzva or commandements of God. Strangely enough lots of those, preaching people have to do no works, demand that people should become members of their church and even dare to frighten them with the false doctrine of eternal punishment in hellfire. (Wich is totally contrary to their teaching of so called salvation without works).

Please remeber the Biblical saying “Faith without works is death” and the lessons Christ Jesus gave with his many parables concerning the coming Kingdom of God, and people who miss it.

Jesus, the key to the Way to God, is lying for free for everybody to pick it up. But it is to each individual to make the effort (undertaking the work) to pick it up and to open the small doors to God’s Kingdom (again a work) having to start the race or walking up to that small gate, to win the race (again many works required). In the Accounts of the apostles, written by Luke, you shall find many examples they had to do and works wich we have to do. Please have a look at those wise and instructing writings.

Thanks Marcus. There are things written that are meant to help our understanding, remember that Jesus is now our friend. What you call “work” may not be what I would call “work”. This is the work of God, that you believe that he has dealt with your sin and death and all you can do to be true to this is to rejoice that it is so. You must accept this to be true and by this become participant in his nature of love and forgiveness.

Dear Sir, presenter of Cross Roman,

      You write that

God has reconciled the world to himself by one singular action – he took upon himself our failings (sins) and consumed them in his love, because this is what and who he is.

Forgetting that God is an eternal Spirit who does not tell lies , can not be seen by man, has no beginning and not end, no birth and no death, and knows everything and can be everywhere,. You seem to take Him also to be the one person about God Himself declared him to be His

      only begotten son

      .

God has no reason at all to bear our sins in something like a body which He has not.

      You also write:

The rationalisation of and by law, can never approach the inspiration of and by faith.

      {The word of salvation is near you [142a]}
      though talk about

“his immediate emerging consciousness would now carry only the image of life, and the prior state would not now be allowed to emerge into this consciousness, having been assigned “death” status, but remain perhaps deep within as the counterpoise to the newly emerged status of life, while his immediate consciousness gained confidence in its ability to take in new knowledge from the living Spirit of God.”

{Salvation summary [9a]} which may be a very strange ‘summary (short recapturing) not demanding our rational mind to think about it.

Though you claim that Mr. Ampe and his Christadelphians are wrong in their idea that people, though having received the free Grace of Salvation, have to work for entering the small Gate of the Kingdom of God, in some of your writings you seem to contradict yourself even telling people they can become unsaved.
You strangely enough warn people for the danger to become unsaved (?!?).

While you may admire their enthusiasm and persistence, don’t listen to their words if they are saying that you have to join their group, or meet on a certain day, or change Jesus to Yashua, or to follow the law of Moses. (Or not eat certain foods). Not to have blood transfusions. Or that there are various conditions to be met before you can be saved, other than the obvious life giving belief through forgiveness of sin.

Because if you do, you may be in danger of losing your salvation, which is based on your confidence in the love God has for you as displayed in Jesus.

      {How to get unsaved [298]}
whilst in your reaction to this blog of Mr.Ampe and his sayings about salvation by the bloodshed of the Lamb of God, and not by any bloodshed of God, like you claim, you insist that everybody is saved and give the impression that nobody has to worry any more and implicate that nobody has to do any works any more to enter the Kingdom of God.

How you fit your other writings together with such claim and protest against the teachings of the Christadelphians and also against the teachings of the Jews, because we also claiming nobody can be saved without keeping to the Mitzvah of God.

In one posting you claim nobody has to do works and in other postings you claim if they do not do this or that they would be doomed?
You even come to write in one posting:

“The two edged sword of the truth of Jesus taking the condemnation of sin upon himself, means that man also is condemned under the same sentence of death. Yet man is offered, by this same condemnation, taken by Christ, release from the power of the sin that is being condemned. Release from being joined to it. Release by joining to another.”

      {Death and judgement [291]}

What I do not understand that you yourself say

“It is the sects and cults, those who alter the central message that Jesus bore our sin on the cross, thus liberating us from its recriminations and penalties, that in so doing, destroy the very intention and purpose of what the cross has done for us, and by so doing, retain death. It is they who deserve to be addressed in corrective ways. (these religions are of the flesh, not the Spirit).”

{Corruption and denomination [275]} but you yourself belonging to such a denomination which 1.bagatelles the death of Jesus by making it God faking His death (because God cannot die) and 2. not believing in the free gift witch people have to accept (=an action to be taken or work to be done) by which people should want to come under Christ (again a work to be done) and 3. claiming people should have to go to hell to experience

      “punishment” for sin (ours).

      {Two hells [262b]}

In case nobody should do anything any more because they are all saved there is also no use any more for such a hell you are talking of and frighting people for (because you consider it to be a place of eternal torture in hellfire (which is umbilical), whilst God made it clear that people pay for their sins with their death. The loving and just God shall never demand a second payment.

An other curious thing is that you yourself say:

Sins are only removed by forgiveness being received into the heart, which then brings the appreciation and return of, love. Love is the very nature of God, so it is love and its outworking which is required. This means self denial and acceptance of Christ as the way the truth and the life, believing that he has dealt with sin for all time, so you can get free of it. There needs to be that “crossing over from death to life”.

      {Avoiding hell [205d]}

Saying that they are removed by forgiveness means that the person first has to show remorse and has to hope or look for forgiveness, which again shall demand some effort from his part, though you claim nobody has to do any work. So, why do you contradict yourself in so many of your writings?

I sincerely hope you shall think about Mr. Ampe his well-known example of the limousine or Rolls Royce present. That without using the Gift of grace we are nowhere.

Hi Immanuel, thanks for the comments. You realise that I am now trying to answer both yourself and Marcus? So it may take some time to work out what is being said here. So much so that I may have to devote a post or two to cover it? Sorry I don’t quite understand what is being said with “You seem to take him also to be the one person about God himself declared him to be his only begotten son?” perhaps you could clarify that one? You know that arguing back and forth is the norm for this kind of communication – but I will try and address your points and attempt to “cut to the chase” as much as possible. But I will have to copy your comments and probably as I said, devote a post or two to it, as it will take a little time. Basically, mankind is dead, and accepting forgiveness for sin and death restores men by renewing their heart mind and spirit. It becomes a problem though if you do not believe there IS such a thing as the Holy Spirit who is the gift of God to men. But I will attempt to “work” through your comments, thank you.

          Cross Roman, clarifying

““You seem to take him also to be the one person about God himself declared him to be his only begotten son?”

I wanted to indicate that according the Holy Scriptures there is Only One True God who is not three, but One Who declared rabbi Jeshua to be his only begotten beloved son. Though it looks like you are taking Jesus also to be God?!?

The Holy Spirit is God Himself not an other personality of God. God Himself is an eternal Spirit and not a man of flesh, bones and blood like you seem to imply in certain of your writings.

Do not worry, I do not mind being patient and receiving some answers some time later. I appreciate it already when people do want to think about the matters, and want to take time to read reactions and want to take time to reply to them.

          So, thanks.

Who or what is the Ho;y Spirit? Jesus says in Matt 11:27 “All things are delivered unto me of my Father: and no man knoweth the Son, but the Father; neither knoweth any man the Father, save the Son, and [he] to whomsoever the Son will reveal [him].” The word ‘knoweth,’ epiginosko, means ‘to know absolutely’. Now if God, the Father, is eternal, how can a created Yeshua know Him thus if He isn’t eternal, just as the Father? Why will Jesus say that He is the Lord of Sabbath in Matthew 12:8? The above are just a few of the scriptural personality of His Personage. Isaiah called Him the everlasting father, in chapter 9 verse 6.

Dear hoojewale, you should know Jesus is now by his heavenly Father, sitting at His right Hand, to be a mediator between God and man.

That Father of Jesus is an Omniscient Eternal Spirit. Being with God now, jesus communicates directly with Him and gets to know everything from Him.

The Lordship of the Sabbath is ascribed only to Jehovah. If a supposedly created Jesus is Lord of creationism as well, does that not reveal Him as of very God very God. God, don’t forget, does not share His glory!

What you fail to see is that His name Jesus Christ shows a duality of His Personage. As Jesus, He’s a man but as Christ He is deity. Remember He said, “I and [my] Father are one” (John 10:30). ‘Are’ is esmen, while ‘one,’ a neuter gender, is heis. Check out what it means. Anytime Christ leaves heaven He becomes a servant. When He goes to heaven He receives worship, even from the four beings around the throne of Majesty. Ponder on these.

Hoojewale you seem to miss the point of being one. Partners have to be one with each other, but that does not mean they are one an the same person. idem dito for teachers and their pupils.

The same as Followers of Christ (Christians) are asked to become one with Christ, like Jesus is one with God,that does not mean christians would become the same person as Jesus Christ, and according your way of thinking would then become God.

The oneness or unity is a oneness of mind, having their thoughts or ideas on one line.

The word ‘knoweth’ is epiginosko, meaning: ‘to know absolutely.’ Who can epiginosko the Almighty Jehovah? Only Jehovah Himself. See this and we’ll be on the same scriptural page.

Matthew 11:28 “Come unto me, all [ye] that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.” Please, do tell me who else can give this rest of spiritual perfect eternal existence save Jehovah. In each of the scriptures (and so many others) Jesus personalizes His part of the deed. If you do not see His eternal deity in these verses then we’re not studying from the same word of Jehovah’s protocol.

Micah 5:2 “But thou, Bethlehem Ephratah, [though] thou be little among the thousands of Judah, [yet] out of thee shall he come forth unto me [that is] to be ruler in Israel; whose goings forth [have been] from of old, from everlasting.” How can the goings forth of Christ be from of the oldness of eternity if He is not eternal as well? If He is eternal then He is God, since God alone wields eternal being. These things many Bible teachers do not see. If you too don’t see it then you probably don’t want to see it! Jesus loves you!

Dear Mister, I did notice you did accuse the Christadelphians saying certain thing, which they nor I said.

Jesus installed the New Covenant by which certain regulation do not count any more for certain people, but for others still (like for non-Christian Jews). But never is given the right to do wrong or sin without receiving punishment for it. Your preaching that people may do whatever they like because they would be saved by the “cross” is a false and misleading teaching which could people loosing their entrance to the Kingdom of God.
